Can't see what's recording

My camera seems to be working okay, except when I try to see where it's pointing. My screen is so dark that it's nearly impossible to figure out what's being recorded. I can see the screen perfectly when in setting more, just not when it's recording. Is there any way to brighten up the screen so I can see what's being recorded?
