I have this same exact problem.  Front camera was working fine,  Updated to the newest V1P-MAX-20210726 software and boom,  boots up and works as it should, EXCEPT, no front camera.  What good is a dashcam without the front camera.

PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP. or let me download an older file so I can try to go back to a working version.

Hey Ethan,  Did Rexing contact you and provide you with a fix? If so can you share what you did to fix it.  Thanks.

    Hi Im14pinball-

Unfortunately, they have not contacted me yet. Looking at other forum posts, it looks like their response turn-around time is ~2 days following posting, mostly just to say contact their support team via email. I have another V1P Max that I bought half a year ago that I was able to successfully update back when I bought it, and it still works great. I was able to find the .zip file on my computer from that update, however, when I tried to update the non-working front camera with that software version (02/01/2021 per the file name) using various methods (formatting SD in working camera then transferring the update into the new camera, formatting SD in non-working camera, etc.) the front camera still did not work. I'm assuming that whatever the initial update (07/26/2021 per the file name) did bricked the camera, so I will be returning both units I purchased with (now) non-working front cameras to Amazon and I am going to try one more time with a unit I'll be buying from Best Buy, using the software update I have from my first camera.

I'm hoping that works because my working V1P Max is great, but the experience I've had so far with these two new units has been less-than-stellar.

I just bought my V1P Max and for some odd reason mine came with a firmware installed that is much newer then the one on the website. My guess is since they are shipping the V1P max with the 1440p rear camera, they had to update firmware on the device. But at the same time they do not want to provide that firmware to the public as earlier adopter of this dashcam received the regular 1080p rear camera.

support responded to me today with just the canned response.  Use a fast Class 10 U3 or higher SD card with instructions on how to update the device.  Completely disregarding the main issue.

The front camera was working fine before the software update.

Followed the instructions to update the device and it updated it, but now the front camera is not functioning.

after reading a lot of posts on this discussion board, I am feeling I made a BIG mistake going with this brand.

Also, the app is pretty much unusable.

Also, they advertise the v1 4k as 4k but its not really 4k, its 1080p upscaled to 4k.

The reason I got the V1-Max, because it is SUPPOSED to be REAL 4k.  even says REAL 4k on the box, because they know their other cameras are not 4k.

Tried 3 different SD cards,  they all update the software, still no front camera.

Bad thing is, I got this camera as a gift for Christmas ( very expensive gift) but I do not have the receipt to return it.  So frustrated with this product.

I do agree that the phone rexing software is garbage, constantly dropping connection with camera, and thats if you can establish a connection with the camera. I keep a type c to microsd reader in the car just in case I need to take the microsd card out of the camera and read the video immediatly. Plug the type c into my android phone and have access to the footage right away.

btw the firmware version on my V1P Max is 20211013. so Oct 13 2021 is the firmware. the latest on the website is the one mentioned above 20210726 or july 26 2021.

I like the camera, it works great, just the mobile software is garbage. picture looks incredible for both front/rear camera. rear being the 2k or 1440p that cam with the v1p max package.

Have it installed in my 2020 Tacoma TRD Sport

Using a 256gb microsd card they recommended on the site, the kingston canvas go plus

I am hoping they can just make the latest file available and it will magically fix all the issues.

Otherwise I have a very expensive piece of plastic.

The camera was working prior to the update so I am hoping another update will fix it.

    This is what mine shows.

and you have the V1P Max? Model is wayyyyy different then mine. What mine shows

Mine says its a v1 max,  so it is not a v1P but a v1 - max.   According to the Firmware updater, they use the same firmware.

According to several sites,  "The only difference between the Rexing V1 Max and V1P Max Dash Cams is the fact that the Max kit comes with a rear camera, while the V1 Max does not. "

Received a V1P Max dash cam for Christmas. Finally got around to installing it the other day. I’m using a new Samsung 512GB Evo Plus UHS-1 memory card. After going through setup and formatting the card the display screen showed the front camera view and would record normally. The buttons would work normally for about 15-120 seconds before they the white leds would go-away and NONE of the buttons would work. They would beep when pressed but that’s it. The display showed it recording normally. Cycling power on it temporarily fixed the problem but only for between 15-120 seconds then it would happen again. Resetting to factory defaults did not help. I then downloaded & installed the latest firmware for this dash-cam from the Rexing website. That seemed to fix the initial problem I had but now I have NO signal from the front camera on the display (all black). The menu and buttons work, but no more front camera signal(?) I did format the memory card after the firmware update as instructed. The firmware version prior to the update was VIP10B-1.0.0.0.20211013. The firmware version after the update was VIP10A-1.0.0.0.20210726. This looks like the out-of-the-box firmware was a later version then what the website has(?) The rear camera shows on the display however the dash will not record anything. It says Paused on the display after several seconds. Very frustrating. Anyone figure this out? Unable to contact anyone from Rexing on the phone. They are very slow responding to my emails.

Wanted to add I’m using a Rexing branded hardwire kit, however using the cigarette/power plug adapter yields the exact same results.

big mistake "upgrading" firmware with lower version. the v1p max used to come with a 1080p rear camera. they started shipping them with 1440p rear cameras. thus the newer firmware then what they offer for a download. That was your mistake #1. #2, the dashcam system only supports up to 256gb microsd cards. as the website says this in clear plain text.

the screen being unresponsive is the screensaver setting I believe. turn that off and you should be able to use the buttons no matter how much time has passed. that has been my experiance with my v1p max system.

So your stuck until you can get Rexing to email or post the "updated" firmware on their site.

Interesting, their site for the V1p Max... in the product title, says 4k+1080p. however if you read the description, 4k+2k rear

seems they are messing with their product page. they might go back to 1080p rear cameras in the box. without changing the product name

Thanks for the info. Your response was WAY faster than what I’m seeing from Rexing! I’ll have to check on the memory card size, but I “upgraded” the firmware based on what I was told to do by Rexing support after detailing the initial problem to them. They said nothing about memory card size at the time however that may have been it if that’s the case. (Dashcam did seem to recognize and format card successfully though.). It wasn’t the screen saver setting. Regardless of what that was set to it would still “freeze” and become unresponsive 15-120 seconds after start-up. Still waiting to hear back from Rexing on my next steps. If I don’t hear anything soon I’ll just “switch-a-roo” with a new one from Amazon and try again.

I have a strong feeling you messed up the main unit by flashing a firmware that doesn't support that rear camera. what does the rear camera look like? my 2k rear camera that came in the box looks like this...

Yeah that’s what mine looks like as well. But like I said, I took the steps that Rexing advised after experiencing my initial problem. Wife picked up the dash cam and memory card as a gift. I do see where they state 256GB is the maximum supported size but you would think Rexing would have pointed that out (like you did) after I reported my initial problem to them, prior to me “upgrading” the firmware.

same issue with the V1 Max I got for Christmas.  Was getting blurry 4K video so I updated the firmware to the latest.  Because that is what you do when a piece of technology is having issues.  You make sure it has the latest version of software/firmware.   Anyway.  I used the software update tool, and used the software that the site recommended, for the V1 Max and the V1P Max.    After updating the software, my front camera no longer works.   Does the same thing, black screen, video paused.  The odd thing is,  the back camera is still detected and shows up fine on the screen.    But without a front camera this thing is worthless.

Rexing support is no help.  Essentially recommended I buy another newer camera.  Even though it was their software that clearly broke the camera.  No receipt, no support.  I asked if they could look at the serial number and determine how old the camera was, they said nope.  If anyone has a receipt I could use, I would be grateful, but otherwise, based on the terrible response from support, and the experience of software update killing the camera, I am looking at another brand.  Nexar will be my next purchase.

Sucks to get a dash cam for Christmas, to update it less than a month later and now it is useless.  A $169.00 Present complete garbage.  So disappointing.

Lance Lund, if possible you can help us by sending the pre-loaded and working firmware file you have installed in your dash-cam.

I got stuck at the same problem you all have. I also "updated" (outdated) my V1P Max dash-cam with the firmware in Rexing website. The working and loaded firmware version I had when I bought my dash-cam was V1P10B-1.0.0.0.20211013, and it was working perfectly, until I download the outdated firmware version from Rexing Support website, which is version V1P10A-1.0.0.0.20210726. The video of front camera doesn't show anymore in the dash-cam display screen, only a black picture, but the rear camera video shows up in the dash-cam display screen. I also get errors in Rexing Connect app in Android. Before I could connect and pair to the camera, so I could see the front camera video in real-time in Rexing Connect app, but now it shows the error "Can't play this file". I tried many times to get help from Rexing support via e-mail, but they won't seem to help me, by sending an updated or maybe the firmware I had loaded initially in my dash-cam.

    Initial firmware version (working firmware)

The outdated firmware version available in Rexing firmware website (non-working, don't install it)

Front camera picture when it was working with original firmware:

Error with Rexing Connect app in Android:

Probably the issue with this outdated firmware version, it's a video codec problem or driver file to connect to front camera. In the worst scenario, it bricked the front camera. Rexing could be more responsible to either show the firmware version information in their website, or even to remove this garbage firmware file from their website to prevent other users installing this garbage in the dashcam.

You can't dump the firmware off of a camera, only load it onto the camera.

Same EXACT thing happened with my camera.  Updated it with the recommended firmware. Recommended by the Rexing website.  After the update, no front camera.  I can plug the back camera back in and i still get a feed from it,  just the front MAIN camera is no longer enabled.

REXING SUPPORT IS NO HELP!!!  After this experience, I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone.

They told me to buy another camera, said they would give me a discount.  NO THANKS.. i have one that I received a Christmas and now it is a paperweight.   I asked them to look it up by its serial number to see that it was under warranty, they said they couldnt.  They had to have a receipt.  I do not have one,  in laws sent it to me from out of state.   Just a big hassle, now a $200 camera is useless and was caused by THEIR software update.  Seems like multiple reports of this issue, they would realize they have a problem and make it right, but nope!  You are lucky to get a response at all.  You may go 3 or 4 days without a response, and when they do respond, they give you the same canned response with instructions on how to update the software.  So frustrating and just an AWFUL company.

Rexing support is only partially responsible to blame for you guys flashing your cams with outdated firmware. You should know based on the filename that the one you downloaded was older, therefore obsolete. Ya it sucks that the newer version isn't on the website. But use some common IT sense, never flash older firmware to a device.

They tell you to update your firmware and give us a link to their firmware update tool. Says which file we should be running.  We followed the directions given, then it turned our cameras into paperweights, then Rexings just tells us that they cant help us and to buy another camera.

Rexing Support or Lack of support is 100% responsible and to blame for THEIR firmware BRICKING our devices.

The fix is easy; I did it already and I’m up and running without issue!

Purchase an identical Rexing dashcam of what you have from a retailer. (Amazon is perfect for this.) Swap your original non-working camera with the newer camera in the box you just received. (Make sure to remove your memory card first!) Return the camera to the retailer you just purchased it from.

After you do this, do NOT perform a firmware “upgrade” as the new dashcam should work without issue; mine did!

The dashcam box is sealed and there are no serial number markings on the box.

Dashcam works well and I love it!
